Alice's 6th child, Lenonard Uzal Hill (1885-1984) always attended the Caven reunions and wore his Sunday suit, even on hot June days. He was a local historian for Miami Co and wrote many articles for the newspaper as well as publishing two books on local history. " A History of Miami Co, Ohio" was published in 1953. We have a copy of this book given to us by Eric's father, Richard Caven Putnam (originally part of the Brown High School library). Leonard compiled his many history articles in a book entitled, "Local and Regional History" published 1970. A copy of this book is in the Miami East High School library. Leonard also compiled the George and Elizabeth Caven genealogy record with his daughter Louise Hill (1916-1989) in 1973. He was born and lived all his life on a farm 5 miles NE of Piqua. Leonard served as President of the Miami County Historical Society. One reunion we attended, Leonard was the oldest Caven present and our son Mark was the youngest. We asked to take a picture of them together, but Leonard refused. He was very formal.

Alice's grandson Willis Hill (b 1908) lived on a farm NE of Piqua and attended many Caven reunions. His wife Pauline continued to attend the reunions after Willis entered a nursing home and passed away. Willis and Pauline were the proud owners of a Riker and Walborn pony wagon made in St Paris. Our daughter Lynn had her picture taken in this wagon.

From newspaper article undated in Martha Ann Anderson Chrisman scrapbook:

[There is a picture of Mary titled - "Mrs. George W. Sanders"]"
FLETCHER WOMAN TREASURES COLLECTION OF SCRAP BOOKS

FLETCHER - Persons who get keep enjoyment out of delving into the past would revel in the collection of pictures, newspaper clippings and scrap books treasured by Mrs. George W. Sanders, particularly if they had ever known anyone even remotely connected with the community. Her collection is a veritable "who's who." There's a long parade of people - their successes and failures from birth, with tragedies mixed in, as told through the columns of the newspapers and as shown through pictures taken by Mrs. Sanders herself. In addition to following the intimate lives of the people of the community, she had kept in complete detail the life of President Roosevelt, and since the birth of the quintuplets in Canada, she's kept clippings of the five little girls, using pictures of every available kind. When along came the war, Mrs. Sanders started to keep a scrapbook in minutest detal from the time of America's entrance until the signing of the armistice. Glancing through this book of 75 pages, she can tell you that men who remained at home earned wages of from $5 to $15 a day. In 1917 wheat sold for $3.50 a bushel; corn, $2, oats, $1.08; eggs were 55 cents a dozen in this locality, and in Bucyrus went as high as $1. Two hundred and fifty letters written by soldiers in camp and overseas are included in the book. Youth, Mrs. Sanders holds in highest regard for at 79 she is a grandmother many times over, and she's making school scrapbooks for the grandchildren. Possessing an amazing wit, she sketches in caricatures for their amusement. There's a life sketch of the late J. H. Newman, who lived in Fletcher and become state librarian. The school comes in for its share of news in its march of progress with each new teacher hired."
