Memories of Donald Eric Luden:
From Doug
My first memory of my grandfather was that he loved food - all kinds of bar food, BBQ food, anything that teased the toungue and had a little spice to it. As kids, we fell in love with the pepperoni sticks that grandpa would get from some magical place and have ready for us when we came to visit. I don't know how many tons of hard, spicy sausage I've eaten in my life but it's thanks to my grandpa that I love to eat the stuff My second favorite memory, even though it was long, long ago, is spending time with him at Lude's Eastside Tavern in the 1970's. He had a shuffleboard game and a shuffleboard bowling game - when the puck crossed the spring actived wires in the table, the hanging pins would flip upward and ring a bell with each shot. A strike was a loud "ching-ching " and all ten pins would snap upward...I must have played a million frames

From Doug:
The things I remember most about my grandfather are the times I spent with him in Canada on the French River. From the time I was an infant , until he was too old to make the long drive, my grandfather was always at camp in the summer time. I was amazed - he could fix ANYTHING out of the parts we had laying around on 18 Mile Island. I'll never lose the vision of him sitting in the back of the fishing boat, my dad in the middle seat, and me watching from the bow seat, as we spent the day fishing. Even though we were never more than a thousand yards from camp, we always had to pack a lunch, cuz we were fishing "for the day" and there was no chance of going back He watched and nurtured my fascination with the river and gave me mobilty with the Sport-Yak and the 1 1/2hp Neptune motor. I broke the prop off it two or three times but he never complained and always had a new prop the following summer...

From Doug:
My memories of my grandmother mostly revolve around the French River, Canada. Spending hours picking tiny bones out of the northern pike and bass we caught so we could have a meal that evening. Happy Hour every afternoon in camp at 3p. Riding high in the bow of the 14 foot fishing boat loaded with groceries and supplies, while grandpa captained from the back, after a trip to Alban or Nolleville. **Grandma always preferred Alban... :-)
One summer when I was 10, I flew from Albany to Buffalo - my first plane trip. After a week i Lockport, we drove up to camp to meet mom and dad. I'll never forget shopping with gram at Bell's, then stopping in Parry Sound at Canadian Tire cuz it was the last chance to stop for anything we really needed before getting to the French River.
